Surviving Winter: My Household Must-Haves

Happy Tuesday! Haven’t been here in a bit! It’s always a goal of mine to be consistent on here, but at the same time, my family and mental well-being are more important! I have become better at not stressing about posting super regularly! I’m just out here trying to do my best! With that being said, I had this on my blogging calendar for today and didn’t want to miss it!

Since we are from Cleveland in Northeast Ohio, you know we’ve got WINTER experience! While we’ve had a seemingly mild winter (knock on wood) there are still things we use, do and/or need to “survive” our winters around here. Today, I’m sharing a list of my fav household items that help us “survive” winter!

Winter air is DRY here and it took us a couple years to realize a key to a healthy home and healthy skin during the winter is HUMIDITY! We bought a humidifier that can cover a large amount of square footage on our first floor – so I like to keep it running A LOT! We LOVE it so much and HAVE noticed a difference with our skin and even getting over illness!

Each bedroom has their own humidifier, but I normally run those when people are feeling sick – not as frequently as the one downstairs.

Next up, this is my GO-TO “lotions” for surviving winter dryness!

Our faces take a beating with the chilly dry air, so I like to use this vitamin C cream – I cannot believe how great my skin has felt all winter – normally I have issues with my foundation looking terrible because my skin is so dry, but I’ve yet to deal with that this year!

My other moisturizer is this – vitamin E body oil. I lather it on after showering and my skin feels super for days!

The next is a winter staple – I keep these products fully stocked when winter rolls around – oilogic vapor bath soap and the vapor roller stick (which I’m not sure they sell anymore!). I love the scent and that the product is good on kiddos.

This one is kind of a stretch for this post BUT, remote car start has been AMAZING! Five to ten minutes before we head out the door, I turn the car on and get it heated! Our car also has a heated steering wheel and NEVER did I imagine how incredible that feature would be!

Comfy shoes. I need a pair of warm comfy slippers for around the house!

TREADMILL – this has been a game changer for us. Having this in the basement gives us the chance to get some walking in during the super cold months! It’s super convenient for us with the kids.

Our Nespresso machine is one that gets used A LOT! I love making a nice morning or afternoon latte to heat me up and give me all the cozy feels!

Baking supplies! With all that time indoors, I try my best to bake and enjoy special treats with the kiddos. It could be something from scratch – like this amazing banana bread OR just some pre-made cookie dough! Winter is time to slow down and bake!

Last but not least, an organized winter clothes bin that is easily accessible. It’s extremely important to have good winter gear in order to make through winter! I normally shop end of season snow bibs (or even better if we’ve been gifted them!), boots, and gloves so I’m not worrying about them last minute! It is so important to have those items ready for the kiddos because going outside enjoying some snow play and sunshine when we can is CRUCIAL to surviving winter!
