What I Cooked Wednesday – Strawberry Angel Food Cakes

This recipe is a classic from my Grandma and is one of my favorite summer desserts to serve guests or bring over to any gathering/dinner party! A fan favorite in our household, this quick semi-homemade dessert is a simple and tasty show stopper!

Strawberry Angel Food Dessert

  • 1 lb of fresh strawberries
  • 2 tbsp white sugar
  • 1 package of pre-made Angel Food cakes (individual size preferred but can use store bought angel food cake)
  • 1 cup of heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar

Instructions

Cut strawberries into slices and add to a bowl

Sprinkle sugar over the berries, mix until sugar is evenly coating the strawberries and set aside.

The longer the sugar and berries sit out together, the more juices are pulled out from the strawberries creating an amazing homemade “syrup/juice”

While the berries and sugar “marinade”. Add whipping cream and 2 tbsp of powdered sugar to a medium sized bowl.

Whip the cream for about 3 minutes until stiff peaks form, set aside in the refrigerator

After a few minutes the assembly will begin!

Place your Angel Food cake on a plate

The top with your fresh strawberries and spoon on the juice

Add some homemade whipped cream top, a scoop of vanilla ice cream to your plate. Garnish with a vanilla wafer

Enjoy this quick, sweet and summery dessert!

Those mini angle food cakes are so cute! Any version of a strawberry shortcake is always a favorite here. You just can’t beat that flavor combination.
