Let’s Look: At Things We Miss

Happy Wednesday everyone! Well, the kids have one week of summer break left…how fitting for this Let’s Look post. As always, linking with some of my favorite bloggers, Shay from Mix and Match Mama and Erika from A Little Bit of Everything.

Today’s topic: Things We Miss.

Like I said, with this being the last week of summer vacation, I fall into a funk EVERY SINGLE YEAR. My husband even is aware of this and truly is an amazing support during this time. With that being said, let’s jump into it!

FREEDOM TO DO WHATEVER WITH THE KIDS

I really miss the days of all of us being home together and having the freedom to do whatever we wanted during the day! Don’t get me wrong, I love the school routine, but I do miss those carefree days of going to the park, zoo, running errands together all year round. Just being around them, the absolute best! I’m beyond grateful I get to spend summer with them and will already be counting down until our next breaks together!

DAYS WITH MY PHYSICAL PLANNER

Audrey now has a planner for the first time ever and seeing her fill it out – adding stickers, color coding – makes me really miss mine! I stopped using them years ago as I found myself not looking at it consistently on a daily basis or missing random events because I forgot to put it in the planner because it was not on me at the time! I will live vicariously through her! I use the Cozi app and love it so much!

PLAYING SPORTS WITH LESS COMMITMENT

This is weird and probably so random, but I miss the days of playing sports without it being over-obsessive. Why do sports need to consume our lives SO MUCH. Why do we as parents have to feel “behind” when we choose to not sign our kids up for all the extra training or travel leagues?! Andrew and I are pretty strict about what we sign up for and are trying our best to tread lightly in this day and age. Kids should be kids and I don’t ever want to see our kids burnt out. BRING BACK MULTI-SPORT ATHLETES!

NEIGHBORHOODS FOR THE KIDS

We love living separated from neighbors a bit and out in the “country”, but Andrew and I do talk about how we miss the neighborhood setting. It would be neat for the kids to meet up with friends whenever, ride their bikes or go to a park or playground. Though, I’m not sure how I feel about it in such a crazy world today, but I do miss how our childhood was and wish the kids could experience it! Where we live – we need to pretty much drive everywhere. The kids are always jealous when they hear Andrew and I talk about our childhood and the freedom we had!

THE TIMES WHEN WE WEREN’T AS BUSY

Don’t get me wrong, I love how the kids are doing the things they love, we make time and celebrate all the people we love, but WOW our weeks are BUSY! It’s a blessing to be surrounded by family and friends but sometimes it can just be a lot. Nothing wrong with it, but sometimes I do miss the days where we didn’t have so much going on and we could truly rest and relax!
