Goals for 2024 in Homemaking

Happy Thursday everyone! Continuing where we left off from Tuesday, today I’m sharing my goals for homemaking in 2024. After nearly 6 years of being a stay at home mom, I feel like I’m finally finding my groove. Could it be that the kids are a little older and it’s a little easier to get certain things done during the day, YES, but I’ve also figured out a routine that really works for me.

Homemaking Goals

Sharing my homemaking goals below! I try to have the viewpoint that my career is in homemaking. How can I use my skills to make our home life better!

More Peace, Less Rush, More Family Time

My goal this year is to create a home that is peaceful, welcoming and as a result will give us more time as a family! Over the past several weeks, I’ve really come to realize how much I love having slow, relaxing days with nothing on the agenda. Being home all together makes me so happy!

I’m sharing some of my other goals below that play into this, but having a good routine and less clutter leads to a tidier home. That means, less time cleaning for me and more time feeling at peace in our home being able to spend time with Andrew and the kids.

Better Routines

This has been a game changer for me. I really took my role SERIOUSLY – before I would push things off and say, yea I’ll get to it later, because I felt I had the luxury of time. How wrong I was. By pushing things off, I made more work for myself.

Every day needs a solid routine and rhythm as a homemaker. There are the tasks that you can’t punt on. Here is an example of my daily routine I’ve set up for myself:
– Wake up before the kids (5:30-6:15am)
– Spend time in quiet and prayer
– Unload the dishwasher
– Make coffee
– Review schedule for the day and look ahead at the week
– Laundry (I try to do at least 1-2 loads a day)
– Put away dirty dishes and clean up kitchen after meal prep, lunch making, etc.
– Make beds
– Put away laundry
– Put away toys when not in use in play room
– Spot check rooms

Those are my main tasks throughout the day. I will fill in with other cleaning tasks and to-do’s, but these things, I don’t like to pass on.

I’ve really made a conscious effort to make sure the kitchen is clean every night. The dishes are tackled, dishwasher is run and papers are sorted and put away. Having a clean kitchen sets the tone for the rest of the house and knowing the feeling I get walking into a nice clean and clutter free kitchen in the morning pushes me to make sure other spaces are just as tidy!

Less Clutter

This has been eye opening. I spent so much time trying to clean because our house was “messy” when in reality, it was just putting away or relocated “STUFF!”. Getting rid of things that are no longer serving us gives us less things to clean up and more space to put our existing items.

My goal this year is to continue to make spaces more organized and functional in our home. If there is a closet or space that needs to be reorganized, my goal is to tackle is, AND come up with a solution that will be used every day and we will no longer PILE UP the mess! Everything in the home should have a space and a spot, if not, the item or the space needs some reevaluating.

More Homecooked Meals

Food is expensive – groceries, eating out, all of it., but you save so much just by eating in. My goal is to cook at home as much as I can. Having a solid meal plan helps with this. I want to experiment cooking different meals and find more family favorites along the way.

Home cooking is also a way for me to make sure my family is getting the proper nutrients they need. So much of our fast food is laced with all sorts of chemicals and additives, so making meals at home helps us avoid most of that and be in control of what we put in our bodies!

I hope to become a better cook as well. I’m already decent at it, but there are goals I have for myself in the kitchen that I hope I can start achieving.

Tackle big projects

There are some projects around the house I keep putting off. My goal is to work through one BIG project a month. Here are some:
– Install new window shades on front window
– Patch any paint that has peeled from the friction of our trash bin – then find a solution to prevent going forward
– Touch up kitchen cabinets
– Repaint baseboards
– Patch hole in basement wall
– Finish little to-do’s in master bathroom

Have pride in my “work”

And last but not least, my final homemaking goal for 2024, have pride in my “work”. It’s not a burden my job. Realize how important homemaking is for the family. It brings peace, structure, calm, it makes sure bellies are fed, clothes are clean and a place where you always feel warm and welcome. I want that for our home and I am proud I can do those things. I’m proud in the having clean grout lines, I’m proud of the fact that the kids have the clothes/uniforms when they need it, I’m also proud of the fact I can help my husband feel less stressed because I am able to get the kids to whatever destination, sports practice, appointment, wherever they need to be, I can get them there!

If you come to my house and say, wow it looks great, that makes me beyond happy to hear that, because I am working hard to make that possible! I’m proud of that.

Would love to hear any goals in your home life for the 2024 season! Share below!
