What We’re Cookin’ Wednesday – Feeding Kids

I am always interested in seeing what other people are serving their kids for lunches and dinners. I try my best to feed my kiddos healthy meals as much as possible, but I also want them to EAT too. Luckily, my kids do crave fruits and veggies A LOT – so that is not the issue. Today I am sharing some lunches, dinners and snacks we have around here. By no means am I an absolute health nut. We do the best we can around here so I am sharing realistic meals that the kids really enjoy!

Breakfast

My son LOVES breakfast (like me)! He generally requests a waffle, wheat toast or dry cereal. My daughter has a grape jelly sandwich every morning – not what I crave for breakfast, but at least she is eating something because she honestly could just skip it altogether.

If I am in the mood, scrambled eggs are also something they love and for a while we were on a heat n’ serve sausage kick.

I generally will give them a yogurt tube or fruit cup as well

We LOVE these MooTubes from Aldi – $1.55 for a pack of 8 tubes.

Speaking of yogurt, a yogurt parfait is another breakfast item I like to whip up every once in a while. Vanilla yogurt, berries and granola – they are easy and a total hit!

I keep fruit cups around ALWAYS – mandarin oranges, peaches and pears are our favs around here…

Smoothie

I sometimes get the random request for a smoothie. This will involve bananas, frozen berries, vanilla yogurt and milk.

Generally, I like to keep it simple and quick for breakfast. At this stage in life, if I were to make a big breakfast, I feel like it would go to waste – I just go for what I know they will eat!

Snacks

I feel like my kids are snacking non-stop these days. It has probably always been like this but I am just more aware because we don’t have the luxury to run to the store twice a week like I used to.

My kids love Goldfish, Pringles, chips, pretzels, fruit snacks, fruit roll ups and oyster crackers – ALL the healthy things, ha! I will let them have any combo of those items twice a day, but am sure to mix in some healthier snacks.

My kids LOVE fruits and veggies. We have been on a huge kiwi kick. Grapes and berries are also a favorite around here. Granny smith apples and bananas are also something I know they will eat ALL of! My kids could honestly have cucumbers and ranch dressing everyday and sometimes they are in the mood for carrots (if I’m lucky)

Other “healthier” snacks we love – applesauce, cheese sticks, yogurt and popcorn.

Lunch and Dinner

I try my best to cook meals I know the kids will eat. With that being said, there are times I try to make them something a little different if I know they won’t like what we are having. They are ages 2 and 4, so I don’t force things on them.

Lunch

Buttered noodles of any shape are a STAPLE at this household. I think they could eat pasta every day if I would allow it, but I do try to switch things up.

Along with these combos below, I will try to serve a fruit or veggie of some sort:

Turkey Sandwiches

Hot dogs // chips or tater tots

Choo choo wheel noodles with marinara sauce

Knorr rice sides – they love the Alfredo and Creamy chicken kind – will serve with corn or broccoli

Mini pizzas (english muffin ones are always good!)

Chicken fries (these are from Aldi and are VERY good). My kids love the chicken fries from Burger King, so this is my at home dupe.

Soup

Kraft Mac n cheese

Grilled cheese

Breakfast for lunch (waffles, scrambled eggs, sausage and toast)

Dinner

A couple meals I KNOW they love below: Weserve these with veggies or fruit and generally a pasta / 90 sec rice

Grilled Salmon – served with 90 second rice and a veggie
A staple at our house – in case you missed it, here is the technique my husband uses to grill the most PERFECT restaurant quality salmon…little secret… this seasoning is BOMB!

Hamburger Helper
We love the Beef Pasta – easy and a family favorite

Spaghetti and Meatballs or Meat Sauce

The kids love the Bob Evans Mashed Potatoes. I LOVE mashed potatoes and these are SO good!

Soup

The kids LOVE soup! I basically serve it with very little liquid and they will eat the cooked carrots, corn, noodles, meat whatever is in there. I am trying to get them to try beans because those seem to always be left behind in their bowl.

Pasta Fagioli Soup

Easy Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup

Grilled Chicken

Burger and Fries

Breakfast for Dinner
