What to Do with Kids – Week Five Winter Activity Ideas

I’m posting a little late today as our boiler decided to bite the dust during the coldest stretch of days! So I’m FINALLY sharing week five of our “What to Do: Winter Activity Ideas”. We’ve been enjoying these activities and it is a great way to switch things up! Hope these give you some ideas and would love to hear any boredom busters you use at your house! Hopefully there will only be 7 more of these to share!

Sharing this week’s ideas and a description of each! Hope you have some fun with these boredom busters!

Baking Competition

The kiddos LOVE the chance to bake so taking this “normal” activity to the next level by making it a competition gives it more appeal and builds more excitement. My kids are still a little young to do the baking all on their own, so I turn it into a “decorating contest”. Whether it’s decorating cupcakes, cookies or chocolate covered pretzels – set out all the supplies (sprinkles, colored icing, candies, etc.) and have them go to work! Place your votes to crown the best baker – in our case, everyone WINS!

Movie Night

This is a normal activity around here! We are always eating popcorn and watching movies – but a fun way to switch it up would be to turn your TV room into a actual theater complete with popcorn, boxed candy and drinks! If you own a projector, that would take it to the next level!

Obstacle Course

I like to make up obstacle courses outside with chalk in the summer, but since we are currently buried in snow, we need to create a course indoors!

You can use painters tape to map our a course or just set up some chairs, pillows, slides, etc. to have them crawl, jump, balance and tumble.

Comedy Night

This could be done one of two ways! I’ll start with our preference – we LOVE watching these videos! We are always cracking up – the kids love this video so much! You could also watch America’s Funniest Home Videos as a family as well.

The other option is to use the microphone I shared for Karaoke night have an Improv night. I’m thinking we will try this one because I have a feeling it will be hysterical – we love being silly!

You-Pick Dinner Night

Leave the kiddos in charge picking dinner. Whether you assign one kid the task or have them come to an agreement – let them select the at homemade meal or take out. The kids find it fun to “be in charge.”
