What I Cooked Wednesday – Kid-Friendly Halloween Sweets

Happy Wednesday! It has been rainy and dreary weather over here the past couple days, plus were laying low, so I thought it would be nice to do a little “activity” with the kids! Baking is always something I love to do with them – it’s fun to be creative, yummy when we get to eat our sweet treats and definitely a hands-on activity (messy at times!).

Today I’m sharing a random assortment of sweet treats that we gave some Halloween flair! These were SUPER easy NO BAKE recipes that would be cute to bring to a Halloween party or serve on Halloween night! We literally used some things we had on hand so creativity wasn’t pushed too hard.

I didn’t have enough white chocolate on hand, but you certainly could have turned the Funfetti Truffles into little pumpkins by adding some orange dye to the white chocolate.

First off, I bought these sprinkles last week – I love having holiday themed sprinkles on hand – the kiddos are OBSESSED with sprinkles!

Melting the Chocolates

I should have used the double broiler method, but I was too lazy. The double broiler method will keep your chocolate from hardening up too quickly. I microwaved my chocolate morsels in a glass bowl for 20 second intervals stirring after each, until the chips were nearly melted – then stirred constantly to melt remaining chips – microwaved roughly 5 times.

Funfetti Truffle Balls

  • 1.5 cups of Funfetti Cake Mix
  • 1 stick of unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 c flour
  • 1/4 c sugar
  • 1/2 Tbs vanilla extract
  • 1 package white chocolate morsels

Combine cake mix, softened butter, flour, sugar and vanilla extract in a mixing bowl (I did add some melted white chocolate to the batter)

Use a fork to work the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles cookie dough (we accidentally added too much cake mix so that’s why ours was more crumbly!) It turned to dough consistency when we followed the step below…

Form the dough into 1″ balls and place on a cookie sheet lined with wax or parchment paper

Melt your white chocolate chips in the microwave or by double broiling

Drop the dough ball into the melted chocolate and use a fork to make sure it is completely coated. Tap off any excess and place on your cookie sheet

Top with fun and festive sprinkles while the chocolate is still wet

You can’t screw these up! Our chocolate was hardening FAST, but I told the kids these looked super spooky!

Cool the truffle balls in the fridge for 10-15 minutes

Easy Peasy Chocolate Covered Caramel Apples

I bought these individual caramel dip containers recently and thought it would be so delish to make some caramel and chocolate covered apples.

I sliced up some apples and Audrey and I went to work dunking. This was a challenge, this particular caramel didn’t stick the best, but we made it work as best we could to keep it easy.

We popped them in the freezer briefly, but it was almost time to make dinner and I wanted to clean up, so we just dunked them in the melted chocolate and they set really quick once the chocolate was on them.

Chocolate Covered Oreos & Pretzels

Simple and self explanatory! One thing I like to do is lather the pretzel with my chocolate, then twirl it in one hand against a spoon I’m holding in my other. It leaves these really neat ridges that add some pizzazz to the finished look!

Add your sprinkles – and yay! Super cute and easy!

There you have it! Easy Halloween Sweets for you and the kiddos to make and add your own creative flair to! Again, these we very simple, required no baking and made for a fun afternoon activity to get us in the Halloween spirit!

These treats were SO SO good and even baby approved!
