Tip Jar: RECAP No Spend January Challenge
It’s February 1st, which means the NO SPEND JANUARY challenge is officially complete. Today I’m sharing a recap of the challenge – some of the successes and some of the failures/updates that need to be addressed. I might even extend this into February and March, which are two more months where there isn’t much going on and we should utilize this in order to save BIG TIME
I know I mentioned this before, but summer can get crazy and the budget is even more difficult to figure out. The kids are home, spending ticks up a little bit – i.e. grocery budget increase, pool maintenance, having family and friends over, cookouts, parties and going to parks, on little trips, etc! These winter months are the perfect time to try to save as much as we can to make up for a variable summer.

Tip Jar: No Spend January Challenge
It’s that time of year again! A time when we sit down and thoroughly review our budget and set financial goals for the year. I will share more on goals and something new I just started for budget tracking, possibly later this week or next (because it requires it’s own post). In the meantime, I wanted to share a challenge with you, one you can join too – NO SPEND JANUARY!
You heard that right – N O S P E N D J A N U A R Y. This will be hard, it will be so annoying, but honestly it’s the reset we need. We didn’t entirely accomplish our goals from last year. Some modifications were made, unexpected items popped up (as they always do) and we focused hard on investing – which has been amazing and sometimes I forget that’s where our savings is!

Toddler Girl Fall Capsule
It’s Tip Jar Tuesday and today I am sharing a cute and inexpensive fall clothing capsule for toddler girls. Fall is the perfect time for layering – therefore the mixing and matching of outfits is a lot easier when different elements such as a cardigan or jean jacket are added! These clothing options can go from church, to play, to party and everywhere in between!

Continue readingTip Jar: Budgeting for 2021
This past weekend, my husband and I sat down to do our annual exam of our household budget and savings plan for the year ahead. We thoroughly look at our budget and realistically examine potential expenses and find ways to cut/save money for the upcoming year.
We have built out and customized an awesome excel sheet template which is an extremely helpful resource for us. I can share if anyone is interested! Having a firm understanding of your budget can allow you to prepare for future expenses (i.e. school, home projects, home maintenance issues, etc.), reconsider what items are truly important and remove things that waste money all while challenging yourself to become a better saver. This sheet is what helped us make the jump for myself to become as stay at home Mom (and of course my husband’s career, we were blessed) – we number crunched and saw the opportunity was possible!

Continue readingThrifty Thursday – A Car Seat That Saved Us Thousands
It’s Thrifty Thursday!! Yes, this title might sound a little EXTREME, but I’m telling you – IT IS NOT!
Last year we welcomed our youngest child, T, and right before his arrival my husband and I sat down to talk over our budget and adjust it accordingly with new baby expenses (i.e. diapers, wipes, formula, etc.) It is so great being able to pull out all the baby stuff we’ve accumulated since having Audrey and JP and I remember pulling one of the things from storage – the infant car seat – and having a moment. How on earth are we going to transport these kiddos, our family of five from place to place?!
My husband drives a sedan and I drive a mid-size SUV – a Ford Edge. These cars obviously aren’t the biggest for transporting a family of five and the back seat did not fit our car seats. That’s when we started our search for a new car. We bickered about the need for 2 SUV’s, argued about getting a minivan (I’m team SUV) or whether we should buy or lease and ultimately could not believe how expensive this investment would be!
I am proud of our financial decisions we’ve made thus far. Budgeting and planning has allowed us to clear away nearly all our debts. We aren’t ones who need the latest and greatest – my car is a 2008, I still have an iPhone 5 – really if it still works, all is good with us! The thought of tacking on more debt was slightly overwhelming – especially when there are no major issues with my car.

As you know, and if you’ve been around here for a bit, I have so much fun changing up the decor on my coffee stand every month! Yesterday we officially celebrated Audrey and Tommy’s birthdays! Audrey has been requesting a unicorn party – so we tried our best to make that happen! For Tommy, we did a Wild “One” theme and I honestly kept it VERY simple and super cost effective!
I know I have mentioned before that I have hoarder tendencies when it comes to party decorations. I throw any decor that is clean and able to be stored into bins in the basement for future use. When it’s party time, I shop those bins to find things/take inventory that could be used for the party before heading out to buy anything new!
