Happy Monday everyone! Today, I’m sharing some of my favorite things from this weekend! I hope your week is filled with so much sunshine and happiness!
Fun with Family
This weekend my side of the family stopped over for a bonfire night. In typical fashion, we never got to the bonfire, but had the best time doing the most random things outside!
The kids had so much fun together – especially these two gal pals <3
And a quarantine cut happened…
We enjoyed pizza and wings (delivered) and just chatted, laughed and had a really nice time – it warms my heart seeing everyone. We’ve missed our families so much!
Fun in the Sun
If the suns out, we’re out. Honestly, even when I was a kid, if the sun was out and the weather’s good – I was ALWAYS outside or felt antsy if I wasn’t.
One child dressed herself, one child refuses to take off his pajamas…
And one child always has a snack in hand…
It’s SO important to get outside and enjoy the sunshine and warmth when you live in a place that gets snow and cold weather for basically half the year!
I LOVE a beautiful sunrise/sunset and have caught a couple beautiful ones lately.
Little man was up early with me so we sat out in the glorious sunshine and warmth. This is one of my favorite spots in the summer to sit and relax in the quiet before all H-E-double hockey sticks breaks loose…
Another one of my favorite spots to sit and look out at…
These two rolled out of bed a little later than usual to join us…
A giant marshmallow for breakfast?! I guess I’ll allow it…
Garden Planning
This week is a BIG planning week for me in terms of the cut flower garden. Last year I started planting bulbs on 5/6. This year, the weather for this week is looking CHILLY, so I am planning to tread lightly.
I’m looking forward to taking you along this planting journey in the next couple weeks and in the meantime, I’m getting all my tubers, bulbs and seeds together and starting to map out what goes where!
Dahlia tubers like WARMTH, so it is important to make sure the soil and weather is warm enough for them to survive. I will most likely start planting this mid-May.
I’ve already enjoyed talking strategy with family and friends, it makes me so happy!
Also, I snagged my first little plant of the season – a Japanese Painted Fern. I have two others, but I love the coloring of this particular variety
These ferns love a shaded/part sun area and are perennials in zones 4-9. I absolutely love the burgundy/grey color they have and will be putting this under our pine in the garden bed out front! They won’t get too big, and are perfect for filling in the gaps around tree trunks or in shaded areas.
Bug hunting
The kids have been having the time of their lives catching worms and all sorts of critters recently. This bug kit is seriously the cutest and we’ve already used it SO much.
I like that the kiddos are into exploring and getting their hands dirty. It’s a great way to learn and I have loved watching their imagination’s at work!
We brought the butterfly net on a walk with us to try and catch a butterfly and my goodness – they are fast! Right when we pulled into our driveway after the walk (and after many failed attempts), we spotted one that landed in the grass – I have never seen my husband act so fast, hahaha! Needless to say, it probably looked hilarious from afar, watching us gallop and jump around to try and catch this little guy…
But we did, and the kids were so happy!
Happy Monday!!
