Is it me or did this week FLY. I seriously couldn’t even keep up with my blog this week because it was so fast paced, ha!
Today, I wanted to share a I put together that can be a great resource if you are planting a container/planter in your yard. The quality is average, I did the best I could, but I hope this is helpful for you as I’ve received several questions on how I plant things!
Sharing my planters again…
Again, I shared these tall rattan planters from Aldi. They are seasonal and back in stock now – R U N! When you compare these to the price and style of other rattan planters on Amazon (for example), these are literally dirt cheap in comparison ($103 v. $16.99)
My planting game plan
I will discuss the design template I follow below, but in terms of what plants/flowers I use, here are some of my favorites. I try to follow the “Thriller, Spiller and Filler” method when creating these arrangements
Personal favs (obviously you want to make sure your planters/containers get sun or you plant flowers or plants that don’t mind shade
Thrillers
In my opinion COLORED flowers are the thrillers for me. Begonias, geraniums, grasses or spikes, palms, dahlias and mandevillas
Fillers
A LOT of times my fillers plants are generally spillers too!
Coleus, supertunias, pansies, euphorbia, lantana
Spillers
Calibrachoa, verbena, sweet Elysium, sweet potato vine, ivy geraniums and creeping jenny
Pick a color scheme
I personally love a monochromatic scheme (different shades of the same color hue), but complementary color schemes can be gorgeous too such as purples & yellows, pinks & purples, etc.
In order to get the look – I follow this “template” every single time…
I basically work in a quadrant. Split your pot (you could trace lines in the soil) in quarters. Then I buy pairs of flowers or similar varieties to plant directly across from each other keeping some sort of symmetry as I go!
Check out how I planted my front porch container!
Apologies for the poor volume quality and hair flying in all sorts of directions (thanks humidity!) Working on improving my video skills – this was one shot and done so bear with me!!
