Good morning and happy Monday! Today, I’m sharing a garden update with you! Since we are covered in 6” of snow, the only gardening that can be done is all indoors at this point in time.
January is actually an exciting time for the garden. It is the planning period, it is when the seeds, tubers and bulbs are ordered and arrive. It is when some plants that need longer growing until maturity can be started as well!
Each year I learn a little more about growing, what to grow and how to do things. This year I’m putting more emphasis on colors that I know will look amazing in bouquets rather than wasting time on assorted varieties that produce random colors.
Once I know what varieties I sit down and create a map of my garden on a big sheet of paper. I learned a lot about spacing last year. Some varieties I could get away with planting a little closer and I want to make sure I maximize my garden space the best I can!
There are a few plants I’m growing that require seed starting at this time. These plants need 120 days until they reach full maturity. In order to have them bloom at the right time, I start them before our last frost date and will transplant them out to the garden once it’s warm enough!
So for now, you won’t find me in the garden! Instead you’ll find me sowing seeds, running down to my basement with jugs of water nurturing and checking on these little seedlings every day! Excited for another fun gardening season ahead!
