What to Do with Kids – Easy, Inexpensive Activities during Winter

I am SO SO EXCITED to introduce a new post series with you! For the final weeks of winter, I plan to share 4-5 simple, inexpensive and easy activities you can do with your kids while stuck inside on a weekly basis! The nice thing about it, you can do them at your leisure or whenever you have the supplies available, but most of these activities can be done using items you have on hand at home!

My husband and I try really hard to switch things up around here and keep it fresh for the kids. Generally speaking, we go a little stir crazy in the winter when we feel we are doing the same old evening routine. We tend to feel overwhelmed on weekends at the thought of “what in the heck are we going to do with these kids” (particularly when everything is closed down).

I plan to share the graphic below every week on Instagram, so feel free to follow along and same them so you are able to look back at if you run out of things to do! So, not only are we looking forward to doing some of these activities, I hope this helps you beat the winter boredom and makes your kiddos happy!

Sharing this week’s ideas below and a description of each! Enjoy!

Lava Game

My kids are constantly playing this. Not that I love having our pillows scattered all over the floor, but they have really loved navigating around the house without touching the floor. It has been fun to watch them use their creativity and makes for good coordination practice too!

Nationality dinner night

My husband thought of this one (he’s the best!). Anyway, he thought it could be fun to teach our kiddos a little more about where their ancestors came from! For example, my husband is Polish so we would celebrate by eating all the polish things – pierogies, kielbasa, paczki, etc.

Write/Draw to a Pen Pal

Audrey LOVES drawing pictures for family members and friends and is always intrigued when we go to the Post Office, so I thought how cute it would be to send a letter or pictures to a cousin, family member or friend!

I also found this adorable idea from Big Life Journal (particularly for little older kids) on how to find a Pen Pal and also different topics to write about.

Puzzle Races

These kids have been loving their puzzles! My husband and I are super competitive so we thought, why not pair up with a kiddo to see which team can complete the puzzle the fastest! We do have two puzzles that are the exact same, just a different picture, so this should be fun! I love the quality and size of these puzzles – perfect for toddlers!

Building Site Puzzle

Ocean Puzzle

Yoga Night (Cosmic Kids Yoga)

The kids love watching any YouTube video on the TV and I know they will enjoy this fun and interactive exercise! You could have the kids change into their “workout clothes” and/or eat something healthy.

There are so many fun-themed videos. Check out an example of one below:
