Good morning everyone, I hope you had an amazing weekend! Today I am sharing our weekend rewind. We had a pretty low key weekend and stuck around the house for most of it. Saturday, we went to a flea market and garage sale, hung some things up around the house and met up with some girlfriends who came in from out of town! Sunday, we went to church and breakfast at a local diner and did some major sorting and organizing of paperwork. Again, my documenting skills are awful, but it wasn’t the coolest weekend to showcase, ha!
We wanted to take the kiddos to a little amusement park and swim, but the weather was pretty weird all weekend so any set time we planned to go swimming in the pool was ruined by random spurts of rain, annoying! But we were able to end the weekend in the pool which was nice!
Flea Market Finds
I LOVE garage sales, but I have only been to two this summer and really feel like I have been missing out! I was so happy to be going to this flea market our city was putting on. I know there are some people out there who don’t like garage sales, but I cannot tell you how many amazing finds I have picked up for cheap! I will save that for a later post, but here are just a couple things I have found in the past and what a couple coats of paint can do!
My game plan for this flea market was to search for furniture for my son’s new bedroom when he moves out of the nursery. I also was on the hunt for any type of shelving, décor or mirrors that I could use to update our bathrooms upstairs.
While I didn’t find exactly what I was looking for, I did end up finding this neat slender book shelf that I plan on painting and putting it in my son’s new bedroom! The book shelf is in great condition and I got it for $10! Here is a picture of it—
I can’t wait to post the after picture to show how it looks after a coat of paint and how I end up utilizing it!
I also found this adorable light pink vase that matches my daughters bedroom. It was $.50 and it’s plastic! She and I are always cutting flowers and I can’t even describe how happy she was when I gave it to her when I got home! She feels so special having her own vase now and I don’t have to worry about any dangerous accidents!
The crazy thing about the photo above – six items in this picture were purchased at garage sales! I got the little butterfly jewelry holder for $.25, the glass lamp stand for $1, the purple lamp shade $1, her bed rail $5, the nightstand (which I painted grey) $7 and as mentioned above the plastic vase! Now you can see why I am obsessed with garage sales because I have really had some great finds!
Paper Reorganization
Okay, so as of recent, my dining room table has looked like trash and has been collecting so much paperwork. I had old medical bills I needed to sift through, coupons, and tons of unnecessary paperwork that I was able to throw out this weekend. It felt great to get that cleaned up and also allowed me to file some things away in a couple binders and storage boxes I have. I break my binders and folders up into several different categories:
- Medical bills (from the past two years only)
- Car – invoices related to repairs, servicing, loan info, etc.
- Home – anything that pertains to any services, improvements, etc. we have done to the house
- Insurance – auto, home, personal/umbrella and life – I have no clue why I keep hard copies of these, but I do…
- Instructional packets or info on any equipment in our house – I will store all of this in an expandable file. We had a nice amount of this info saved from the previous homeowner and have since added a ton to it!
- Fireproof box – This fireproof box was actually something I bought from a garage sale ($3) and something I really wanted to have in order to store our birth certificates, social security cards, marriage license, baptismal certificates, passports and other important documents
I feel like we have a decent system down, but am always curious how others organize all their paperwork. I know a lot of things are digital now a days, but there are a lot of items I like to have a hard copy of. Would love to hear any recommendations you would be willing to share – please comment or shoot me an email!
Shelf Hanging
Last but not least, in an effort to continue to clear out the dining room, we hung some shelves that I purchased a while back! I found the shelves pictured below at our local supermarket in their closeout section for $5 a piece! I love how they tie in the black and light wood colors we have in our front play room. Ignore the lack of decor, I will post an update once I add some seasonal decorations!
The other three were purchased at Home Goods. We needed something on this huge blank wall behind our kitchen table. These pull in the greige tones we have in our kitchen.
I love the character it adds to this wall and cannot wait to decorate these as well! The plan is to also add a clock to the middle, so I will post an update once we find that as well!
Well, another weekend in the books, looking forward to what this week will bring!
