As I mentioned previously in my Postpartum expectations post – setting up all types of “baby stations” around the house has been so helpful for me. This way if I have an emergency or need to get something with the two bigs, I can put baby down right near us!
I’ve had several people ask which ones to put on their registry and I will share the main ones that were either gifted to myself or recommended by other Mom friends!
The products I chose are really nothing fancy– I know there are so many cool things out there nowadays, but we pretty much kept the same stuff we used for my daughter – 4 years ago!
First off, we used to use the Fisher Price Rock ‘n Play Sleeper, but reading more about it, it has been tied to infant deaths. So I do not recommend that in your rotation.
UPSTAIRS
We keep this 3-in-1 glider system upstairs. It contains a bassinet, swing and bouncer that you are able to remove and interchange. We haven’t used the swing portion because baby T is so good and doesn’t need movement all the time! I do love using the bouncer from this though – it is so easy to transport it from room to room whenever we are upstairs doing something.
There is a bassinet piece that can be inserted or removed from the base. I actually place the bassinet in between my husband and I on our bed. We do have a king sized bed, so there is a lot of space to put this. I cannot tell you how convenient this has been for us! First off, baby is learning to sleep flat on their back and secondly, it makes those overnight feedings that much easier.
We utilize it this way for about 2-3 months until baby is starting to sleep in longer stretches and by this time I do notice they are starting to outgrow it L. After this time, we will be switching to the crib or we will use the portable bassinet bedside.
DOWNSTAIRS
I keep this portable rocker in our kitchen and dining room – it is very easy to move around and I feel like baby is generally awake when we are in these areas all together.
This rocker features a cute little toy arm that baby likes to swat at and play with! It also has a vibrating feature as well, but the batteries have been dead and I haven’t replaced them because little man seems to be doing just fine!
The Kick ‘n play is also another staple I have downstairs on the floor in the playroom. We spend a large amount of time in this room and when baby is awake, I will place him here and let him kick around and “play” too! This is so helpful for baby to learn how their action will cause a reaction.
Someone purchased the pink version for my daughter and that is what we have continued to use for the boys, ha!
This portable bassinet is another staple in the playroom. I love to keep this one nearby and honestly some big time naps have been taken in this! I like to rotate napping locations (generally it is based on what part of the house we are in), but one of my main goals when baby is little is to get them to sleep flat on their back as soon as possible.
It can be hard to do this because a lot of babies love to be held or some love to be on an incline, but I really try to make sure this is in the nap rotation as much as possible. It has worked for my kiddos, hoping it can work for yours as well!
This bassinet is also so lightweight and portable. This is such a great and easy thing to pack up and take with you wherever you go!
Which brings us to the last product – the Pack’ n Play
I personally own the simple play yard, but they do have ones that feature a changing area, which is so nice! My sister-in-law had this set up in their living room and it was super convenient for changing baby rather than laying them on the floor, which I do!
I tend to use the play yard when they are a little bigger, it could be because I have so many other things out, but having a play yard is an essential in my opinion. When baby starts to become more mobile and awake time is longer, this is amazing to have on hand. Baby can play and/or nap in a contained area, which is nice when you may have chores or other things to tend to around the house. It also acts as a “safety zone” from the bigger kids who are running around like wild people!
Whether you are Mom with multiples, pregnant with your first or simply gifting for a friend and/or family member, hoping me sharing how I use them if helpful to you! Would also love to know what products you are using and how you use them! Feel free to comment below!
