Hey, hey, hey everyone! Happy Thursday! We celebrated Nellie’s first birthday a month ago and ever since I was planning to share a post about puppy! So, that’s what I’m going to share here today!
We had no intent on getting a dog – in fact we had told Audrey so many times “we’re never getting a dog?” Fast forward and we both say how it was one of the best decisions we’ve ever made. While it’s been a bit of a learning curve, sweet girl has been amazing and fairly easy for us! There are a handful of basic obedience things we need to brush up on (she gets overly excited when she sees people – which is our fault we greet her with over excitement all the time) but for the most part, she is a very good and a total sweetheart – especially with our kids and others.
Here’s a little about the mini Bernedoodle. The mini Bernedoodle is a cross between a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Toy poodle. They weigh between 30-40 pounds. They are hypoallergenic and coat types can vary among – wavy (which is little to no shed – F1 Bernedoodle) and curly coat (F1b Bernedoodle). Nellie has the wavy/straight coat!
Most Bernedoodles have coloring like the bernese – black, white and tan – Tricolor. Nellie’s coloring is tri-color merle. Her litter 80% tri color and 20% tri color merle!
Here’s what we LOVE about Nellie!
She has the sweetest personality! She’s gentle with kids (after the initial excitement wears off). She’s smart (because she’s part poodle)!
She’s a total cuddle bug. She loves her people HARD and always has to be in on the action!
She always comes to school drop off and she just gets the routine! She LOVES to be anywhere the kids are.
She is very playful and silly! She loves to play fetch and keep away! Our family just loves her silliness! Nothing better than this pup!
She gives the best hugs and kisses!
A couple things to note!
I’ve read a lot about the bernedoodles fading. Her tan points have pretty much faded away (she has some tan spots on the back of her legs and ears)
Grooming schedule can be extended longer in the summer when we keep her fur short (~10 weeks)- but in the winter, we like it long and this requires regular brushing and more frequent trips to groomer – I was trying to do every 8 weeks in the winter.
Her coat does matte easily, I’m trying to figure out a good technique on keeping her hair brushed and smooth!
Her shedding is equivalent to how we lose strands of our hair every once in a while.
And that’s a little about Nellie! We love her very much!
