Life Lately Around Here

Happy MONDAY! My gosh – I feel like every time I get back into a rhythm of blogging, BOOM, something hits. We’ve had a wild couple weeks, which I’ll get into here shortly! First, I want to start off by saying, thanks for coming here and reading – it really brings joy to me to see that others enjoy reading blogs just as much as I do! It keeps me motivated to keep writing!

Well, where to begin. A couple weeks ago my Dad was having jaw pain and headed to the ER. No shortness of breath, not much else. He was released a couple hours later after some monitoring. My Mom got some of his test results the following day and we were chatting about how some numbers were elevated and after chatting over things and not feeling comfortable, she decided to pull out her pulse ox. If you don’t have one, I feel every household should. We bought ours years ago when our son was having weird breathing episodes during illness and I think it saved our butts more times than I can count.

Anyway, his oxygen saturation reading was 78%! 78! That’s awful. We honestly didn’t even believe it (I was on FaceTime with her) – we swapped out batteries, my Mom tried to warm his hands, we just couldn’t believe it. Fast forward – an ambulance ride and he’s back at ER and monitored day and night. Fluid all over his lungs and CPAP on. In the morning they decided to do an ECHO and within 30 minutes they were saying he needed to be life flighted to Cleveland Clinic main campus for an emergency life saving surgery.

The next part of the story was an absolute blur. It was wild how quickly things had taken a turn for the worst. We were fortunate enough to see him right before being rushed to the elevator to head down for surgery, honestly not knowing what the outcome would be. A memory and a feeling I won’t forget. The surgeon on call told us what bad shape his body was in coming into this – aortic dissection, tears all over his aortic arch, blood pumping backward filling his lungs, kidney function limited, and blood ox saturation levels not well – scary stuff. We waited for 6 hours in that waiting room…

What an absolute miracle the whole situation was. So many things had to happen, timing was insane, we are so blessed and there is no explanation other than that of God’s Hand in it all. The surgeon – God love her, said the surgery went really well. The road to recovery wouldn’t be easy, but she was able to repair his heart, the arch and handle an aneurysm that was there as well that was pretty large.

My Dad is 2 weeks out from surgery and recovering. Things are different for sure, but we are just so lucky and blessed to have another day with him. Please keep him in your prayers. It makes you think about your own life. Everyday is SUCH A GIFT. SUCH A BLESSING!

Even my sister-in-law dealing with glioblastoma has been tough. You feel so hopeless and just want her to be healed. It puts a new perspective into our lives for sure so if you could also keep her in your prayers too, we would so appreciate it.

While things have been a little heavy over here, I want to keep up with some of the things that bring me joy – I have to! Life is too short. I feel pulled in many different directions at times and try to do it all, but need to make sure I’m enjoying this life too. Will try to keep writing and sharing even though it can feel pointless in the grand scheme of things, but it brings me joy so I’ll stick to it!

See you back here tomorrow! Thanks again for reading and know I am keeping you in my prayers!
