SCHOOL. STARTS. TOMORROW. OH MY GOSH – where did this summer go?! Honestly, it flew by. Yesterday I was crying for a good portion of that day – Kindergarten is a big deal in my eyes. It’s the beginning of a new era. The next 16 years of life will involve school and the freedoms I used to have with all three kiddos in tow on a weekday are gone – well until next summer – but you get the point. I am trying to make today a great day for Audrey and also get her prepared for her first day of Kinder, but before I head out to do that, I’m sharing some things we have done already to prepare for day one.
It is really nice school starts on a Wednesday. What a great way to ease back into things. We were able to recover from the weekend and also get things in line and organized before Wednesday rolls around.
Transitioning from Summer routine to school routine
This past week we’ve been putting the kids down for bed at normal “school bed time” and explaining to them why we are doing it. We spent the last three months living summer hours, so I didn’t want to cut them off cold turkey the night before school – that would throw them off.
In terms of wake up time, today was our trial day. I set Audrey’s alarm clock and let her come in our bed to watch some cartoons so she is used to waking up! Audrey LOVES to sleep in so this year will be interesting. I’m hoping she falls into a nice routine.
Having uniform in a reachable spot
Audrey wears a uniform, so getting ready in the morning should be really simple for her. I have set up a section of her closet that has all her shirts folded and uniform jumpers hung up! She knows the getting ready routine from last year. Wake up, get dressed, hair and down for breakfast.
Emotional Prep
In order to get Audrey emotionally ready for school, I bought her this book to read to her tonight.
I also am gifting her this bracelet so she knows I will be with her and thinking of her ALL DAY LONG! Ugh, I’m already a wreck thinking about tomorrow.
So that’s our plan to get ready for the first day of school tomorrow. Headed to the park and looking forward to swimming and enjoying our last day of summer vacation! Here’s to not being an emotional mess all day – ugh, trying my best!
