Happy Tuesday! Today, I thought it would be fun to share all things HALLOWEEN around our house! From costumes, to traditions, to all things leading up to the day here’s a look at how we do Halloween!
Time is flying and I also feel the pressure of soaking in these sweet moments where the kiddos want to dress up, particularly in the costumes I pick! I can still get away with it with Tommy, but Audrey and JP have been very vocal this past year on what they want to be! I used to be so thrifty and find costumes at garage sales or purchase them on clearance at the end of the prior Halloween season.
Costumes
As mentioned above, for the past 5 years, our costumes have been either a garage sale find or end of the year sale purchase. Now things are changing, but here is a look at our costumes!
This year, Tommy said he wanted to be a “Pumpkin Man” (haha!) so we made that happen! Audrey is Addison from Zombies 3 and JP is Owen Grady from Jurassic World!
I got their costumes off Amazon – sharing the links below!

Trick or Treat
I like to take the kiddos to at least one event other than Halloween night to get candy! It’s fun for them and I also feel better about spending money on the costumes if they will wear it more than once! Halloween can be such a rat race, so to be able to soak in their excitement and cuteness in their costumes is a bonus for me! Nine times out of ten the kiddos are bundled up in coats outside trick or treating anyway soooooo it works out!
One of our favorite things to go to is the Halloween Carnival up at our school! It is a blast! The kids really enjoyed playing games, walking through the haunted hallway and seeing friends!
Last year there was a free Magic Show at the library that was an absolute blast! The more dress up events, the better!
Pumpkin Time!
The week leading up to Halloween is when we pull in the pumpkins and start carving! The kids LOVE to carve pumpkins – we let them pick their design and we try our best to make it happen! We love to throw on the Kid’s Halloween party playlist on Spotify and get to work scooping and carving our pumpkins. I will normally bake a batch of the Pillsbury cut-out cookies (Halloween edition of course) to help our creative juices flow! We also roast up a couple seeds too!
Our Fav Movies & Shows!
We’ve been watching all the classics! The kiddos LOVE the Halloween Town movies, Zombies 1-3 and Scooby Doo (the old school TV version!). We also enjoy watching the Halloween Baking Challenge/Wars – the kids also get a kick out of those! While watching we enjoy sipping on some cozy hot cocoa!
Halloween Night
Halloween night is always my favorite! I love the smells, the excitement the kiddos have and sense of community there is that night! Since we live on a road without sidewalks – we head back into our parents neighborhood (which is the best for trick or treating!) and enjoy walking their beautiful neighborhood seeing our old neighbors and all those familiar faces!
We first stop at my parents and make mummy dogs for dinner!
Then, we take pictures on the front porch and then it’s go time!
Then we walk up to my in-laws house and hang out up there! The kiddos will help Grandma pass out candy for a bit while we chat on their front porch!
The neighborhood we grew up in was just the best so I love walking around enjoying all it’s beauty!
And that’s a look at the week’s leading up to Halloween night! Looking forward to cutting pumpkins this week and some nice warm trick or treating weather on Monday!
